Morgan Sindall hands over £12m Birkenhead school buildings

Construction services firm Morgan Sindall has completed work on the multi-million pound Ridgeway High School development in Birkenhead.

Archbishop of York John Sentamu was on hand to officially open the site with a ceremony marking the handover of the £12m scheme.

Morgan Sindall’s transformation of the Ridgeway High School estate included constructing a new three-level teaching building and single-storey sports hall.

The new properties are arranged around three terraces and set within the school’s existing playing fields.

New utilities, including an electricity substation supplying power to the school and nearby homes, have also been built.

The original buildings, which date back to the 1970s, will be demolished and replaced with access routes and landscaping early next year.

Morgan Sindall area director Barry Roberts said: “The Priority Schools Building Programme has enabled the delivery of first-rate education facilities for schools across our region that were in very urgent need of repair.

“The new development at Ridgeway High School has created a pleasant, modern, purpose-built learning environment that will benefit students, teachers and the local community and we’re pleased and proud to have successfully delivered these transformational works.”
