Signs of success for Hexham
RESIDENTS in Hexham still have a few weeks left to find out more about proposed new signage.
Recently Hexham Business Improvement District (BID) hosted a drop-in event to showcase plans to upgrade and improve some of the signs in and around the town.
Signage has been one of the biggest priorities for the BID since it was established last year, and the findings of a study carried out by local firm Differentia were unveiled in the open day.
Visitors were given the chance to view the plans and speak with designer Steve Pardue, and then give feedback.
The plans and display banners have now moved to Wentworth Leisure Centre where they will be available to view until the end of October, with the opportunity for people living and working in the town to submit comments and suggestions.
“It was a successful day, and we received some very good feedback on the quality of the design, the way it respected Hexham’s heritage and which areas we propose to cover,” Helen Grayshan, manager at Hexham BID.
“Some changes have been made after comments received from businesses on Bridge End and Tyne Mills Industrial Estates, and a revised scheme for those areas is now in development and will be published shortly.”
Once the final feedback has been received, BID chiefs will begin discussing plans and timescales for specific areas in October and November, and is set to reveal more details soon.
“We are now in talks with the Planning and Highways departments about applications for the new sites, as well as removing the clutter of out of date and damaged signs,” added Helen. “The aim of the whole project is to make sure the town is easily accessible and easy to navigate, with a view to attracting more tourists and helping grow Hexham into an even more thriving area.”
The plans will remain on show at Wentworth Leisure Centre for the next three weeks, and comments can be sent to info@hexhambid.co.uk
