14 new jobs created in Wylam as Co-op opens third Northumberland store

A new Co-op store in Wylam is set to create 14 local jobs, following the conversion of a former garage.

Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy was responsible for the site’s transformation, the Co-op’s third store in Northumberland.

The specialist firm of building surveyors and project managers was instructed to manage the conversion on behalf of the site owner and The Co-op has agreed to a 20-year lease on the property, in a deal secured by Youngs RPS.

Located on Wylam’s Main Road, £475k was invested in producing the 3,800sqft retail outlet.S ilverstone appointed Hexham-based Doddwell Brothers as main contractor to undertake the construction works, which were completed in time for the official opening last week.

Mark Coulter, associate director at Silverstone said: “We are very pleased to have completed our third Co-op project in Northumberland. Having established a strong relationship with the retailer we have developed a clear understanding of their specific requirements.”

“It is great to see the Co-op Group continuing to invest in developing new stores throughout the North East, revitalising otherwise redundant sites and creating new jobs within the local community.”

“The new Co-op store will be a great addition to the village of Wylam for local residents, offering convenience for the community within this semi-rural location.”
