Fighting spirit! Local housebuilder supports martial arts groups’ journey to World Championships
Continuing its support of the communities in which it builds, leading local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, has provided Modern Martial Arts with the necessary funds to help the team on its way to the World Karate and Kickboxing Championships this October, held in Portugal.
The Modern Martial Arts Society, which is close to David Wilson Homes’ St John’s Walk development in Hoylandswaine, Barnsley, is a training facility teaching martial arts to anyone from the age of three years old. The team won gold at the National Championships in Modern Martial Arts in January, securing a place at the World Championships in Karate and Kickboxing this October. Barratt Developments Yorkshire West has donated £500 towards the costs of taking the group to Portugal. The team recently visited St John’s Walk to receive the cheque from Jayne Owen and Gavin McCarthy, Sales Adviser and Sales Manager at the development.
Sarah Moss, Chief Instructor at Modern Martial Arts, commented: “This year has seen our club go from strength to strength and we are overjoyed to have been selected for the World Championships in October. We wouldn’t be able to attend such events without the help of the local sponsors, so the donation from the team at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West is greatly appreciated and we are very excited for the competition!” Gavin commented: “We are so pleased to be helping the team at Modern Martial Arts reach the World Championships. They are a brilliant part of the local community, encouraging sport across all ages and we wish the team lots of luck in Portugal in October.” St John’s Walk is a beautiful countryside development of four and five bedroom homes, located in the sought after village of Hoylandswaine. Homes are available to purchase from £386,995.
