North East Welding and Engineering Company Engages in Training Programme
One of the region’s leading providers of integrated welding and engineering solutions – QA Weld Tech – has engaged with a local, and highly reputable college as part of a strategic training and development programme, which has already seen the company significantly improve its safety and quality whilst reducing costs for its clients.
The Middlesbrough based company joined forces with renowned training and development specialists Derwentside College. Well known for providing high quality education and training, the Consett based college supported a cross sectional team of 10 members of QA Weld Tech’s staff, providing over one year’s worth of training in Business Improvement Techniques (BITS).
The training has provided valuable experience in a number of core units such as; health and safety, solution implementation and data analysis and problem solving. This forms part of the company’s culture of continuous improvement as it strongly believes in equipping its staff with the best knowledge and highest safety standards in order to consistently improve its performance.
Speaking about the training programme, David Pickles, Operational Director at QA Weld Tech said: “We believe that enhancing the skills of our employees is essential for the continual success of our business enabling us to have a competitive advantage in securing new opportunities.
“It is important for us to invest in our employee’s future and grow their skillset, as such, helping us to retain our very best talent. We take pride in the fact that we are an innovative and progressing company, which means that we need to constantly evolve our skills to stay ahead of the game in the industry.”
Throughout the year, other external training has already taken place and QA Weld Tech has become IRCA certified securing the world leading quality standard ISO 9001:2015. As well as this, two intermediate Team Leading Apprenticeships have been achieved and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) including DPI, MPI and UT has been completed.
Robbie Harrison, Process & Improvement Engineer, who is taking part in the training said: “I am delighted to have been provided with this opportunity. This training not only benefits the company, it also helps me to progress with an extensive skillset under my belt in multiple areas. I feel privileged to work alongside a world class team of qualified welding engineers, coded welders and experienced fabricators and receive extensive training on a continual basis to help me grow.”
The company occupies nine adjacent workshops at Riverside Park Industrial Estate, providing production space in excess of 4600sqm and has carved a reputation in the oil and gas sector working on projects alongside major companies across the globe including; BP, Total, Shell and GE.
Founded in 1980, QA Weld Tech is a leading provider of integrated welding and engineering services delivering a full turnkey service from initial consultation right through to project management, inspection and testing. The company has recently expanded and now operates in seven new sectors including petrochemical, valves and pumps, rail, marine, nuclear and power generation.
