Tia Marquis-Copeland and Natasha Tyler of Powell Williams.
Tia Marquis-Copeland, Powell Williams
The national building consultancy has appointed graduate surveyor, Tia Marquis-Copeland, to join its team in London.
Tia recently graduated from Kingston University with a Masters in building surveying; prior to this, she did a degree in business and finance at the University of Portsmouth.
As a young woman entering the sector, Tia was drawn to Powell Williams by the success of Natasha Tyler, the RICS Young Building Surveyor of the Year 2016, an associate in the London office. Natasha will be her mentor and provide support during Tia’s APC training.
Tia said: “I enjoyed my MSc very much and am looking forward to developing my knowledge and gaining experience of client work as part of an extremely busy practise.
“I’ll be learning from some hugely well-respected surveyors in the senior partners, and I’m also really excited to be working with Natasha Tyler.
“She’s done so much in such a short time, winning a national award and becoming an associate so young, and is an example for anyone starting out in this profession.”
She is continuing a family tradition by working in property, following the footsteps of her landlord mum and surveyor uncle into the industry.
Tom Dignan with Syft team members.
Tom Dignan, Syft
The staffing app, that has raised £8.7m, has recently appointed Tom Dignan as its chief technology officer.
Following successes at engineering teams at Yahoo!, Earthlink and Excite@Home, Tom has proven expertise in architecting large-scale consumer Internet systems.
Tom graduated with a PhD in high-energy physics from Harvard University and spent time at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre as a postdoctoral scholar.
Co-founder and CEO, Jack Beaman, commented: “Tom will be our very first CTO and we are incredibly excited to attract such talent.
“Novo and I have a huge vision for where we wish to take Syft and Tom is a crucial hire to ensure we achieve this. Not many startups in the UK can say they have a world-class CTO but we can!”
Since 2009, Tom Dignan has served as chief technology officer of ReputationDefender, leading the company’s technology and development team.
Tom said: “After moving to the UK this summer, I interviewed at a bunch of places and none of them got me as excited as Syft. Of all the places I’ve seen, Syft was the one that had the potential to become a massive worldwide opportunity.”
Mandie Sewa, Moore Blatch
Law firm Moore Blatch has appointed a new member of its immigration team, Mandie Sewa.

Mandie brings with her particular specialism in the intricacies of the law of the European Economic Area and all areas of the Points Based System – knowledge that will be of great value to Moore Blatch’s clients as Britain leaves the EU.
Mandie said: “Immigration law is a challenging, but rewarding, area of the legal profession, and is becoming ever more important as a result of Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.
“I am very pleased to be joining Moore Blatch, and am excited about the prospect of delivering high-quality support to our clients as part of Moore Blatch’s specialist immigration practice.”
Mandie has over 17 years of experience in UK immigration and nationality law and is recognised as an immigration lawyer by Legal 500. With a background in business herself, Mandie has an understanding of the practical issues that commercial enterprises face when launching in the UK or seeking to hire or transfer personnel from abroad.
