Former PwC tax advisors launch Manchester-based VAT firm

Three former employees of professional services giant PwC have established their own VAT firm.

MHA Mtaxco was set up in Manchester by VAT specialists Jonathan Main, Alison Carey and Raphael Suissa.

The company is part of MHA, an association of independent UK accountancy firms, and is the first specialist provider to be invited to join the organisation.

Mtaxco said the decision will enable it to secure more work on a national and international level.

Jonathan has worked as an indirect tax adviser since 1989 and was a partner in PwC’s Tax North practice. He is also the former head of PwC’s alternative dispute resolution practice within indirect tax.

Chartered tax adviser and accountant Alison, meanwhile, has close to 25 years of VAT experience, advising clients from high street brands to SMEs. She formerly served as a senior manager in indirect tax at PwC.

Lastly, MHA Mtaxco co-founder Raphael is a chartered tax adviser and certified accountant with more than 20 years’ experience in indirect tax. He was also a senior manager for PwC.

Jonathan Main, the firm’s managing partner, said: “VAT never stops changing, so there’s always significant demand for support in this complex area.

“Launching the business as part of MHA provides an opportunity for us to complement the tax services provided by other member firms.”

He added: “We share a commitment to offering a high-quality service, backed by a breadth and depth of experience to meet the demands of clients.”

MHA chairman Rakesh Shaunak commented: “MHA Mtaxco joining the association represents a milestone in the development of our national service footprint.

“Being able to offer expert advice and support in specialist areas such as VAT is a strategic priority, enabling us to build our business across the UK and further support the needs of existing MHA clients.”
