Reading Invests in More Parking Options
Reading Borough Council has made a significant investment in terminal technology to improve parking availability in and around the town centre.
The local authority has installed 79 new Parkeon Strada terminals through its partnership with NSL, which manages parking services across Reading.
The solar-powered coin-only terminals are located in on-street locations around the town centre, and close to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and the town’s university, to increase the overall availability of parking spaces for local residents and visitors.
They are linked to Parkeon’s Smartfolio central management system, which allows the council to monitor the terminals remotely and obtain a detailed analysis of parking and payment data.
Paul Allcock, Car Parks Officer for Reading Borough Council, commented: “We are always seeking to improve the services we offer to our residents and, as a result of this investment by Reading Borough Council, we have increased the availability of parking spaces around the town centre, making it more convenient for local shoppers and visitors to Reading.
“The terminals are also more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, thanks to in-built solar power, while the Smartfolio back office system will deliver income reconciliation and detailed management reports for the council to plan its future parking strategy.”
