Teesside organisation joins prestigious World Steel Association

Research and innovation centre Materials Processing Institute has been appointed to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

The Teesside organisation was officially ratified as an affiliated member of wordsteel at its AGM in Brussels on 17th October.

Headquartered in Brussels, worldsteel is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The international trade body for the iron and steel industry represents more than 150 steel producers across the world, as well as steel research institutes and industry associations.

Chris McDonald, CEO of the Materials Processing Institute, said: “We are delighted to join such a prestigious industry body and this reaffirms our standing as one of the leading research institutions within the global steel industry.

“worldsteel represents the world’s biggest names in the sector and it is an honour to become a member, in what is a special anniversary year for worldsteel and its associates.”

The Materials Processing Institute is a research and innovation centre that provides R&D based services and consultancy. It also works with SMEs and supports supply chain companies in developing new technologies and products through its SME Technology Centre.

The Institute also works with a number of world leading steel companies, having welcomed delegates from industry giants ArcelorMittal, Sidenor, thyssenkrupp, voestalpine AG and Liberty House Group to its research centre this year.

Chris added: “The Materials Processing Institute has a long history working with companies from a number of sectors, including leading steel firms from around the world. Through our partnership programme we have created a focused and integrated research ethos to help improve materials and processes for clients.

“We regularly welcome delegates to our research centre in Tees Valley and are now hoping to build on this period of positivity and continue our work in supporting companies, both regionally and worldwide, develop their products and processes.”
