Family United in carpet franchise network
A Rochdale carpet retailer is keeping it in the family as owner Janis Baklenow brings her daughter on-board to join the team.
Marie Baklenow has been appointed as a sales advisor at United Carpets & Beds on Union Street, following in her mother’s footsteps at the carpet and bed showroom.
Janis, who took over the franchise in October 2014 is celebrating three successful years at the helm of the showroom, which has been part of the retailer’s network for 20 years.
She said: “Marie has previously helped out in the store and she’s such a natural with customers that it was a no-brainer I had to have her join the team officially. Customers know they can trust her and she’s building great relationships with them; a lot of our business is currently from repeat customers who have been pleased with our service.”
United Carpets & Beds, which is headquartered in Rotherham, has over 50 showrooms across England and Wales within its franchise network; one of the others is also in Janis’ family.
“My husband owns the showroom in Cheadle so to say we get quite competitive is an understatement! This is a busy time of year for us as homeowners begin the countdown to the end of the year and getting their houses ready for Christmas.
“As well as flooring, we’ve got a huge bed department so customers are returning to complete the different rooms in the house,” said Janis, who has 30 years’ experience in the flooring industry.
Marie said: “I’m really proud to join mum and her team at United Carpets & Beds Rochdale, the customers are lovely and it’s great to see them come back again knowing we’ve helped make their redecorating process a little easier!”
