Demolition works complete on resi scheme set to be Liverpool’s ‘biggest in 10 years’

Demolition work is now complete on the site of a proposed five-block development in Liverpool.

The scheme, believed to be the city centre’s biggest residential project in 10 years, will deliver over 1,308 apartments across five individual buildings ranging in height from 18 to 21 storeys.

Along with the new homes, the development will comprise 682 on-site parking spaces and commercial units.

Mees Demolition Group spent eight weeks removing more than 1,800 tons of brick and concrete, along with 200 tons of steel, from the 700,000 sq ft site.

The land was formerly occupied by the D P Watson Building and sits in the Pumpfields area of the city, on the corner of Leeds Street and Vauxhall Road.

If approved, Mees’ development arm could start work on the scheme as early as Spring 2018.

Thomas Mee, of Mees Group, commented: “This site, often referred to as Via Verde, is the largest on the new northern boundary that is creating space for the expansion of the business district as well as providing a range of residential properties.

“My team pride ourselves on dismantling and clearing sites of all sizes on time and this vast site was no different with us coming in on time so the next stage of development can take place.”
