PTC welcomes Made Smarter Review
David Grammer, Vice President Sales at PTC, a global provider of technology platforms and solutions that transform how companies, create, operate and service the ‘things’ in the Internet of Things (IOT), reacts to the made Smarter Review.
“It’s not a question of if, but when the fourth industrial revolution takes hold and UK manufacturing needs to make sure it continues to embrace it and all the competitive benefits it brings. If we are slow on the uptake, you can bet international rivals will jump in front and take advantage.
“The Made Smarter Review is an important step-change in injecting much needed energy behind adoption of this technology and, at PTC, we welcome a lot of the findings released today.
“Any proposals that make it easier for companies to speed up making their decisions and remove the common myths that the Internet of Things (IoT) is difficult and expensive to implement can only be a good move.
“The fact the Government is promoting the launch of 12 digital innovation hubs should mean it is easier for firms of all sizes to see this technology firsthand and how it can have a tangible impact on the way manufacturers interpret real-time data, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and use Augmented Reality (AR) to supply their customers more efficiently and profitably.
“There is also a proposal in the report that looks at creating an eco-system in the North West. In a way, we are already doing something similar and this week we will be launching Factory 2050 in collaboration with the AMRC in Sheffield.
This will be the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative research, capable of rapidly switching production between different high-value components and one-off parts.
Our ThingWorx Industrial Innovation IoT Platform will be the basis for the digital factory workings, enabling customers and partners to rapidly connect machines, devices, sensors and conventional production systems into a smart factory. The AMRC will also house Deloitte’s Connected Factory, which makes use of digital manufacturing technologies and creates an innovative format to help organisations explore what Industry 4.0 really means to them, where they might start to use it and how they may successfully embrace it.“
