Work begins on £3m new homes development near Selby

Work has now commenced on a new residential development, which sits between Selby and Castleford.

The scheme comprises 29 new homes in Byram, which will be exclusively for the rentals market as part of a £3m development.

Designed by Leeds-based Brewster Bye Architects, East Acres is being developed and constructed Strategic Team Group on behalf of Home Group, one of the UK’s largest providers of housing and supported housing services.

The development, due for completion in June 2018, will consist of one, two, three and four bedroom houses located on East Acres, which is close to the centre of Byram village.

A new access road will be incorporated into the development as well as shared mews courts.

Will Gardner, director of development at Home Group, said: “This site will provide an opportunity for individuals and families to rent a brand new and affordable property, in a highly sought after area.

“Because of the area’s popularity there’s a shortage of available homes and this scheme will help to address that, and contribute to our objective of building 10,000 new homes by 2021.”

Mark Henderson, a director at Brewster Bye Architects, added: “We’ve specifically designed this development to provide an extensive range of high quality, affordable homes that will achieve ‘Building for Life’ standards as well as exceeding the Homes & Communities Agency’s Housing Quality Indicators.

“The whole scheme will feature an open but inward facing design, with forming courtyards and defined spaces, which will help to foster a sense of community and will make it a great place to live.”

Andy Watson, managing director at Strategic Team Group, also commented: “This land led scheme is right on our doorstep and we are delighted to be working in partnership again with Home Group and our framework architects Brewster Bye.

“Not only will the development address local housing needs but it will also create excellent opportunities for employment and skills development in the Selby area.”
