Could a digital boost make this farmers’ market the most popular in the North West?
A community farmers’ market in Cheshire has increased visitor numbers by boosting its digital footprint.
Abbey Leys Farmers’ Market attracted new customers and stalls after turning to Reaseheath College for help growing its digital platforms, which includes a new website and social channels.
Janet Harrison, location manager at Abbey Leys, said that while the market enjoys a base of loyal customers who visit each month, it’s “wonderful to be able to communicate with a new audience” with “a real interest in sustainable produce and supporting their local community”.
Speaking further, she said the plan is to further develop the market’s web presence over the next six months and become the “most popular farmer’s market” in the North West.
Janet added: “It’s an ambition which doesn’t seem that difficult to achieve, with the continued support of the Cheshire community.”
Reaseheath College’s ERDF business co-ordinator, Beth Chinn, commented: “It has been a pleasure to work with the community of volunteers at Abbeys Leys.
“To see them benefit so directly from the advice and support provided through our SME growth programme has been wonderful.”
She continued: “Our fully funded support, which is tailored to the needs of individual businesses, has really enabled Abbey Leys to take the next step with their online development and attract a new and wider audience who have a keen interest in farming and local produce.”
