Greenlight for £50m Unite Students scheme in Manchester city centre
Student accommodation manager and developer Unite Students has received the go-ahead for a £50m property in Manchester.
Located at New Wakefield Street in the city centre, the new 573-bed scheme is close to both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.
The development will be funded with internally generated sources.
Unite Students’ group property director, Richard Simpson, said: “Manchester has the largest student population in the UK after London with two high quality universities, making it a strong market for Unite Students.
“We are very proud to build on our presence in such a fantastic city.”
The building will open for those starting university in 2020.
With planning consent in place for the New Wakefield Street scheme, Unite’s total development pipeline for the next three years comprises 6,500 beds.
In Manchester, the company has five properties providing homes for more than 2,300 students.
