Construction begins on £25m hotel at Manchester’s Piccadilly Basin

Work is now underway on a £25m Dakota Deluxe hotel at Piccadilly Basin in Manchester.

The 137-bedroom venue on Ducie Street will be the fifth for the Dakota Group, a partnership between Leeds firm Evans Property Group and hotelier Ken McCulloch.

Building firm GMI is now on site delivering the scheme.

The land for the development, the group’s first in Manchester, was acquired from regeneration firm Town Centre Securities.

The hotel will comprise 20 suites, including a penthouse ‘Grand Deluxe Suite’ of more than 1,000 sq ft.

A number of the suites will feature rooftop gardens, lounge areas, dressing rooms and steam showers.

The site will also house the Dakota Bar & Grill, a restaurant with 104 covers and external seating terraces, complemented by the 75-cover hotel bar with a Champagne Room and outdoor seating area.

Evans Property Group portfolio director Alan Syers said: “The Dakota Deluxe hotels at Leeds and Glasgow have performed exceptionally well.

“The expansion of the boutique hotel brand enables us to bring a new offering to the Manchester hotel leisure market with an experience unlike any other in the city.”

He continued: “We are incredibly excited to have secured such a fantastic site in the heart of Manchester and work is now underway with GMI, who recently completed the Leeds Dakota Deluxe. Manchester was always a priority city for the brand and we are looking forward to seeing the hotel come to life.”

The Ducie Street hotel will open for guests in Spring 2019.
