Merseyside fitness directory Checkfit beefs up with Manchester rollout

Liverpool-based health and fitness website Checkfit has announced plans to expand into Manchester.

The firm is looking to roll out its online directory services to Manchester by Christmas while strengthening its presence in Southport.

Checkfit, described as the ‘TripAdvisor for gyms’, currently offers information on over 800 gyms, sports clubs, fitness classes and personal trainers across Merseyside through blogs, images, reviews and descriptions.

The company was founded in Liverpool earlier this year by entrepreneurs Stephen Edgerton and Michael Holden.

The duo spent two years developing the platform, inspired by their own frustrations after struggling to find information on local clubs for their children.

Since then, Stephen and Michael have taken on John Edgerton in the role of full-time operations manager. Having already built relationships with hundreds of gyms, clubs and group organisers, John will now help drive the company’s expansion outside Merseyside.

Stephen said: “Checkfit has just taken off and we see the potential to eventually roll it out across the UK.

“For us, it is not just about letting people know where the clubs and gyms are. We have a wider aim of encouraging health and fitness among people of all ages.”

Michael commented: “We are really excited about the potential of Checkfit and see no reason why we can’t replicate it across the whole country.

“It has become commonplace to check out places such as restaurants and hotels on apps such as Trip Advisor and hotels.com so why not gyms and health clubs?”
