Sunderland academic selected to help establish Centre for Business Research in Cyprus
University of Sunderland academic Dr Derek Watson has been chosen to play a key role in establishing the new Centre for Business Research in Cyprus.
Appointed as the first Senior Research Fellow at the new centre, Dr Watson will help the island’s top business school - the Cyprus Institute of Marketing Cyprus Business School - in becoming a European force.
The Centre’s primary aim is to facilitate, generate, and promote business research in Cyprus and abroad, establishing itself as a world leader in research and actively sourcing experts globally.
Professor Andreas Hadjis, Director of the Cyprus Centre for Business Research, said: “In setting up the Centre, we aim to facilitate, create, and promote research in the broad field of business in Cyprus.
“At the same time, we aim to create a Research Centre that looks outwards – which is why it is so wonderful to have someone like Dr Derek Watson as one of our first Senior Research Fellows.
“The expertise of Dr Watson, who will also serve on the editorial board of our journal, will help the Centre reach its goals: to advance original research, disseminate information and insights to business executives, foster international networks, and create an environment in which senior scholars coexist with early career researchers as well as business executives and policy makers.”
In addition to promoting research within academia, the Cyprus Centre for Business Research also provides consulting services to organisations and executives.
It intends to expand academic knowledge in different sectors of the business community at a regional and international level and to provide insights into the business environment through the knowledge and expertise of its members.
Dr Watson added: “Cyprus Business School is fully committed to further establishing itself as a world leader in research and is striving to source experts globally. I am delighted to be part of such a dynamic multi-national team of researchers.
“I am confident that under my new role, we will foster closer research, commercial and teaching opportunities between our institutions and this will ultimately enrich our student learning journey at Sunderland.”
