Plans in for Liverpool’s new £50m cruise terminal

Plans have been submitted for a multi-million pound cruise terminal on Liverpool’s historic waterfront.

The proposed £50m facility would be able to service the world’s largest passenger ships, providing a boost for the city’s already thriving cruise economy.

Liverpool City Council’s application includes the removal of Princes Jetty and construction of a terminal based on a new suspended deck structure in the River Mersey.

The application is due to go before the authority’s Planning Committee in January

Site preparation at Princes Dock in Liverpool Waters would get underway in Spring 2018, subject to planning consent.

The city council is currently looking for a design and build contractor to construct the terminal.

The tender process will close to submissions on December 14.

Further enhancements could be delivered to the area around the site of the proposed terminal, according to the council.

Potential planning applications could include supplemental projects such as a 200-room hotel and multi-storey car park with over 1,700 spaces. Both would improve the city’s ability to handle the next generation of cruise ships – some of which can carry as many as 3,600 passengers.
