Raft of housing wins swells Surgo's residential portfolio
North east building contractor Surgo Construction is enjoying a surge in residential development work, after winning appointments on a number of housing schemes.
In total, over 230 new homes are under development, planned or being priced, with the most advanced of these new projects already on site at Backworth.
The business is currently working on a £4m Northumberland Park housing scheme for Northumberland Estates.
The firm is creating a mix of 50 two and three bedroom affordable homes, the properties will be a mixture of shared ownership sale and affordable rented homes to be operated and sold by Home Group. The project will be undertaken in phases with a 60-week construction schedule.
Other members of the construction team include Summers Inman as quantity surveyors and principal designers, Fairhurst providing structural engineering and Pod Architects.
David Straughan, development manager for Northumberland Estates, said: “We were pleased to appoint Surgo to this important housing scheme and are looking forward to working with the team again at Backworth.
“This development forms part of the Northumberland Estates’ strategic plan to provide more affordable homes for people living in this part of the county.”
Surgo is also appointed preferred contractor by Ascent Homes for a development on Thornhill Road, Ponteland, which was formerly the site of the Ponteland Library. After demolition of the library building begins in early September construction will follow to create 27 two-bedroom apartments for open market sale, including four one-bed apartments.
The development which is to be named Eland Court will be built in two individual blocks over three storeys and linked at first and second floor level with a contemporary, glazed bridge.
Speaking about these new projects, director, Jeff Alexander, said: “Our residential portfolio is rapidly expanding at the moment, which allows us to draw on our significant housebuilding experience while at the same time, develop our relationships with existing clients such as Northumberland Estates and Ascent Homes.
“Surgo has a long and successful history in the housebuilding sector and we are delighted to be able to play our part in this current surge in residential development by building high quality homes for local people.”
