Techspace expands into new European location

London’s Techspace, a workspace provider for technology businesses, has announced today (November 21) its Berlin expansion, with the opening of a new co-working space.

The space is located on Lobeckstrasse, Kreuzberg, and holds space for 450 workstations across 3,000 square meters.

This is the seventh co-working space that Techspace has opened and its first overseas outpost. Companies who join this space will be part of Techspace’s European scaleup community of over 1,500 members, including Business Insider and Goodlord.

David Galsworthy, CEO and co-founder of Techspace, said: “The ever-growing number of startups in Berlin has put the squeeze on resources and infrastructure. Office spaces are scarce and there are few new developments expected to open in the city until 2019.

“At a time when Berlin needs to be establishing its tech hub credibility that can support scaleup businesses, it’s a problem that needs to be resolved and we feel that it’s important we support the growth of the ecosystem with the launch of our largest space to date.”

Berlin is said to have seen a surge of investment activity in tech this year, which has created a gap in office space availability for startups and scaleups.

According to research from Savills published in March 2017, there is just 1.4 years of available office supply left in the German market, the lowest level in more than 15 years. In Berlin, the problem is even more severe, with just 0.6 years of available office space left.

Co-founded by serial entrepreneurs David Galsworthy, CEO, and Alex Rabarts, CTO/COO, in 2012, Techspace supports technology startups as well as focusing on larger, more established companies by helping them to bridge the ‘scaleup gap’ through offering space that adapts to their growth and needs.
