Work starts on new Lincoln Travelodge

Work to transform an area of land close to the new £30 million transport hub project in Lincoln city centre into a new Travelodge hotel has started this week. Development firm S Harrison has appointed family-run construction firm R G Carter to carry out the 12 month long build programme. Set in a prominent position just off Tentercroft Street, close to the city’s High Street and railway station, the 127 bedroom hotel will open to guests next winter. York-based S Harrison have purchased the site from the City Council following the grant of planning permission earlier this year. Development director, David Clancy, from S Harrison said: “Lincoln is a fascinating Cathedral city that attracts plenty of tourists, and it is also a great place to do business. It’s an incredibly exciting time for Lincoln with such major investment in this central area in particular, and we are proud to play our part in helping to bring Travelodge to the city.” The City of Lincoln Council’s new transport hub project includes the provision of a new car park, state of the art bus station, major improvements to the city’s railway station forecourt and its car park, as well as a pedestrian plaza linking Sincil Street and High Street to the railway station. David adds: “All of these impressive improvements will help to create a vibrant and easily accessible central hub for people to enjoy, and this new quality hotel is much needed in this area, as it will provide great value accommodation as well as creating new jobs.” The new five storey Travelodge will provide 60 double bedrooms, 61 family rooms and six accessible rooms as well as a parking area. The building will be constructed mainly from red and buff brickwork with recessed grey aluminium window frames. On the ground floor there will be a main entrance, reception, breakfast area and café bar. Since becoming involved in the Lincoln project, S Harrison has partnered with local charity, Lincoln Community Larder, as part of its commitment to supporting charities in areas it works in. David explains: “Our involvement with Lincoln Community Larder is in its early stages. We have just made our first donations this week, which include advent calendars for local children to enjoy, and we’re now planning to support the work of the food bank, which provides food to people in crisis on an on-going basis.”
