New Everton stadium: Blues sign 200-year agreement on land at Bramley Moore Dock
Everton have put pen to paper on a deal to secure dockside land for their new stadium.
Everton Stadium Development Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of EFC, signed a formal agreement this week (November 23) with Peel Land and Property to lease part of Bramley Moore Dock.
The 200-year deal is conditional upon the Toffees securing planning permission and funding for the proposed ground.
The signing marks a major milestone in the project, as it means Everton effectively now control the land where their new home will be built.
EFC chief exec Robert Elstone said: “Clearly, this is very positive news. Gaining control of the site was essential for us to be able to move forward with the next stages of the project – finalising the funding agreement with the council and preparing for the submission of a planning application – both of which we hope to do in the new year.
“I’d like to thank Peel as well as Mayor Anderson and his colleagues at the Council for their support in getting us to this point.”
Bramley Moore Dock sits within Liverpool Waters, which is owned by Peel and comprises five neighbourhoods along Liverpool’s waterfront.
The plans for the stadium will be complemented by leisure amenities and facilities to enhance the visitor experience.
Liverpool Waters assistant project director Ian Pollitt commented: “2017 has been a landmark year for Liverpool Waters with a series of planning permissions granted for both Princes Dock and Central Dock, including the plans for a new cruise terminal and a collection of residential developments.
“We know that a world-class stadium, on the banks of the River Mersey, will act as a trigger for even more investment and jobs which will be of huge benefit to the whole city region. We’ve been working very closely with all partners to get to this stage and we’re excited to move on to the next phase of the project.”
Commercial property firm CBRE, adviser to Everton on the Bramley Moore Dock project, has estimated that the new stadium will deliver a £1bn boost for the local economy and stimulate the creation of over 15,000 jobs.
A team from law firm Brabners acted for Peel on the property aspect of the deal. Law firm Winckworth Sherwood advised the company on the planning element.
