Stockton’s cultural quarter set to welcome exciting new restaurant

Stockton’s Riverside is to welcome a chic new restaurant in 2018, to further complement the town’s thriving cultural quarter.

Scheduled to open in April 2018 by Concept Leisure, the new bar-restaurant will be located at 11 Finkle Street, which boasts scenic views of the River Tees. It will offer a high quality food and drinks menu, serving up lunches, coffees and snacks during the day, as well as an evening menu and cocktails.

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, Councillor Nigel Cooke, said “We are delighted that such an experienced operator and high end cocktail bar proprietor is establishing a quality bar-restaurant in Stockton.”

Stockton has seen a flurry of new high-quality bars and micro-pubs open in the past 12 months, all of which have proved popular with the locals. In 2016, Jomast successfully developed The Wasp’s Nest and Hope and Union, as well as more recently working with Concept Leisure on a second branch of the exclusive Middlesbrough cocktail bar, The Nuthatch.

Although the site is currently occupied by Mohujos, the mexican restaurant has announced it is to close it’s doors on 2nd December to allow the team to concentrate on new business ventures.

Mohujos owner, Wendy Sayers, said “We have had a wonderful three and a half years in Stockton and hope the staff and owner of the new restaurant enjoy trading from Finkle Street as much as we have done.

“It has been fantastic to see the town’s night-life transform in recent years and we are looking forward to exploring other options for Mohujos in smaller units in Stockton while also spending some time focussing on the other parts of our business” she added.

The new bar-restaurant will undergo a major refit by Jomast Developments and Concept Leisure in the coming months.

“The new venue will complement the changing nature of night life in the town perfectly and is in the ideal location to benefit from the investment in the Hampton by Hilton hotel, the restoration of the Globe and the popular year round events programme” added Councillor Nigel Cooke.

“We are also pleased that Wendy, the owner of Mohujos, now has the opportunity to focus on a new business model and look forward to welcoming her back in future to take advantage of some of the other exciting opportunities available in Stockton town centre.”

Simon Hatfield, Director at Concept Leisure added, “After opening The Nuthatch in 2016 it became clear that Stockton Town Centre was at the start of an exciting resurgence and we were keen to expand our business with a restaurant in the Cultural Quarter. Working previously with Mark Hill at Jomast and Stockton Borough Council we are excited to partner with them again in the New Year on this brand new project.”
