Be road safety savvy! Local housebuilder educates Leeds pupils on the importance of road safety
To mark Road Safety Week (20th – 26th November), housebuilder Barratt Homes Yorkshire West is educating school children on how to be road smart and stay safe in their local area.
Year 4 pupils from Methley Primary School recently visited Barratt Homes’ nearby St Oswald’s View development in Methley, following a road safety talk arranged by Barratt Homes and delivered by County Road Safety Officer, Anne Partington.
Anne delivered a whole school assembly and specific Year 4 training to Methley Primary School on road safety. Some of the Year 4 pupils then had the chance to put their new skills into practice, with a walk to St Oswald’s View. Sales Adviser at the development, Hannah Longfellow, was there to greet the children and gift them all a reflective Barratt bear key ring to attach to their school bags or coats to help them be visible and stay safe.
Keeley O’Brien, Year 4 teacher at Methley Primary School commented: “We were delighted with the site visit and the road safety talk organised by Anne and Barratt Homes. We want the children to be able to still enjoy being outside during the winter months but also to be safe, particularly on their way to and from school when it is quite dark. We’re really pleased that they’ve now been given important tips on how to do this, and the key rings are such a great bonus.”
Hannah commented: “We’re always keen to support our local communities, so it was a pleasure to team up with Anne to teach the pupils at Methley Primary School about road safety. We’re really pleased the children liked their reflective Barratt bear key rings, and hope that these, along with the tips and information they have learnt, will help them stay safe around roads this winter.”
Road Safety Week takes place between 20th-26th November, run annually by Brake, the road safety charity which aims to encourage communities to promote life-saving messages about road safety.
St Oswald’s View is a delightful semi-rural development of three and four bedroom homes tucked away in the village of Methley. Homes are available to purchase from £229,995.
