Datatrial Appoint Data Specialist

A regional software company is further expanding and strengthening its specialist team with the appointment of a dedicated Data Engineer.

Graduate Tim Porter, 32, has joined specialist software company Datatrial after studying Biomedical Genetics at Newcastle University. Prior to returning to University he worked as an IT teacher and then as a senior developer in Wales for almost a decade.

Commenting on his appointment Datatrial CEO Dr Emma Banks said; “Managing data is critical to the success of medical research and clinical development. Aggregating clinical data from multiple sources is also a vitally important aspect of our own software development and the future direction of bio-science and life science industries in general.

“This is an exciting time for Datatrial following our first new software launch in 9 years. We believe our new software Nucleus will be a game-changer for medical and pharmaceutical companies in how they can use data to manage and run clinical development, so we’re delighted someone with Tim’s specialist knowledge has joined us.”

Tim, from Bangor, originally moved to the northeast in 2012 to join his fiancé (now his wife Jo) before deciding to return to higher education to complete a BSc in Biomedical Genetics at Newcastle University.

He added: “Good data management is both a driving and limiting factor in the progress of scientific research and particularly in clinical trials. Big data is a term often loosely thrown around within the industry but should not be ignored. The rate at which data is collected increases continuously and both data management strategy and the tools employed must be adapted accordingly.

“At Datatrial we exploit the power and scalability of Microsoft Azure’s cloud computing platform and are looking at novel approaches to big data storage such as Data Lake’s, which will give our customers the ability to access all of their data, the way they want it and as they need it.

“By transforming data, we can help clinical researchers to easily perform their statistical analysis, identify patterns, spot problems and confirm hypotheses, as they can see everything they need, in one place. Ultimately, Datatrial can reduce the time and cost incurred by bioscience customers in clinical trials while allowing them to deliver the highest standards in safety and evidence-based decision-making.

Datatrial develop software to improve the clinical research process and recently launched new software Nucleus in Boston and Europe (as most of the software company’s customers are based outside the UK).

Datatrial was founded in 1999 to develop software to improve the clinical research process. Soon after, the company successfully expanded its offering with services geared toward helping customers run clinical trials more efficiently and more cost effectively.

Earlier this year Datatrial sold its data service division to a US-based company to allow it to focus solely on software development and new products.
