Crystal Palace announces £100m Selhurst Park expansion

Selhurst Park is to be redeveloped under new plans that could cost £100m, says Crystal Palace.

A new main stand is to be built, and the club will not need to move when the work is carried out. Selhurst Park holds around 26,000 people, but it has been said that the capacity could be expanded to 40,000.

Work is expected to begin within the next 12 months, taking the capacity to 34,000, and costing around £75m to £100m.

Parish has commented: “We need a stadium that reflects who we are, how far we have come and where we want to go - a stadium that South London can be proud of, a home worthy of our incredible support and unique atmosphere and this great Premier League we represent.

“We have worked long and hard and looked at several options over the years, including returning to the original site of Crystal Palace, which wasn’t viable. While we can’t go back to it, we can build a new one and today I am proud, in conjunction with our partners KSS, to introduce a new Selhurst Park with a new Crystal Palace for a new era.”

Parish has revealed designs and a formal planning permission application is expected in January 2018.

Palace expect the project will take two years once the building work has commenced. The new main stand has been designed by architect KSS, who worked with Liverpool on their recent redevelopment of Anfield.
