Newcastle blinds business acquires new premises with £100k investment

A £100k funding package from HSBC has allowed Deal Direct Blinds, a 30 year old family-run business, to open a 5,000 sq ft production facility and showroom in Newcastle.

Established and run by Ed Blackbird and his daughter Joanna, the business provides bespoke blinds and fitting services throughout the North East and UK.

Currently employing 13 members of staff, the company services for a wide range of clients including fitting vertical sloping blinds in the control tower at Newcastle Airport.

Ed Blackbird commented: “The financial support from HSBC will undoubtedly help to turn our business ambitions into a reality.

“When we first established the business, myself and my daughter were operating out of a bedroom and have worked hard to grow it over the last 30 years.

“We’ve been banking with HSBC for many years and the bank understood this expansion was the natural next step for us. We’ve now got the capacity to grow the business and our staff in the new premises.”

David Slane, Area Director for Business Banking in the North East and Cumbria, added: “We are thrilled to support the growth of this family-run business and help them achieve their long-term ambitions.

“The resulting expansion reinforces the flourishing business landscape we have here in the North East.”
