Entrepreneurial sisters create nine jobs with new Wirral furniture store

The two sisters behind furniture retailer Homebird Interiors have created jobs with the launch of a store on the Wirral.

Miriam Templeton and Darrell Whittaker’s newest site, located in Heswall, is their fourth in the North West.

Opened with an undisclosed funding package from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), the store has created nine jobs and brought Homebird Interiors’ total headcount to 35.

Miriam and Darrell purchased their first site for the business in Wilmslow nine years ago. Since then, they have expanded the company with additional locations in Altrincham, Cheadle Hulme and now Heswall.

The two have forecast turnover across their store network to hit between £2.5m and £3m at year end.

Homebird Interiors sells a mix of furniture, lamps, rugs, candles and other home decor items.

Miriam said: “We are delighted to open our new store in Heswall, a town we are familiar with and pleased to return to.

“So far the interest has been incredible and our sales figures reflect this. October is always a busy month for us anyhow as our customers like to receive their furniture and accessories in time for the festive season, coupled with us offering something new and different to the local community, we couldn’t be more pleased.”

She continued: “Michele [Fynan, relationship manager at RBS] has played such an integral part in our journey from inception to date as she continues to support us and help us expand the Homebird Interiors brand. We are lucky to have her on our side and appreciate all her efforts.”

RBS’ Michele Fynan commented: “I’ve known Miriam and Darrell for many years now and feel very proud at what they continue to achieve. They are a local business doing really well and have an incredible eye for detail with regards to securing the right premises and maximising every opportunity.

“I am sure Heswall will serve them well and provide an exciting future.”
