Local housebuilder supports Yorkshire musicians to help the homeless this Christmas
Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, has recently sponsored a project to record and produce a Christmas charity CD in aid of a homelessness charity, that works across Huddersfield, Leeds and Bradford.
Yorkshire folk singer Roger Davies and the Hepworth Brass Band have joined forces to release a special charity Christmas song in aid of the West Yorkshire homelessness charity ‘Simon on the Streets’. Barratt Developments’ donation has helped fund the cost of recording and producing the CD.
Christmas on King Street was written by Roger and was inspired by a meeting with a homeless lady on King Street in Huddersfield… “Hey what you say please spare some change for me, it’s so cold here and I’m hungry, this Christmas on King Street.” The track is available to download and also on CD, featuring a brand new arrangement of the traditional Christmas carol ‘Away in a Manger’ by the Hepworth Brass Band.
Leigh Baker, Musical Director of the Hepworth Brass Band said; “Roger is a fantastic lyricist and the song really strikes a chord. With our brass accompaniment we’ve created a truly Yorkshire sound to raise money for this worthwhile cause”.
Simon on the Streets is an independent charity covering West Yorkshire, offering emotional and practical support to rough sleepers or those at risk of rough sleeping. Remaining independent of statutory funding is critical to the charity’s success allowing it to work without restrictions and to deliver tailor-made support on an individual basis.
Gordon Laing, the general manager at Simon on the Streets says; “It is marvellous that we have received both recognition and support from Roger Davies and the Hepworth Brass Band by writing and recording Christmas on King Street. We always support any means to raise awareness of rough sleepers and the homeless and to do so through art is fantastic”.
David Coe, Land Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, added: “We are delighted to have been involved in this wonderful project. We aim to contribute and work with the local communities in which we build so we are pleased to have been able to help the creation of this CD. It is a brilliant track which will help a very worthwhile charity.”
