Whitby Cub Produces Winning Artwork for Property Developer
A 10-year-old Cub Scout from Sleights near Whitby has won a competition to design leading York based property development company S Harrison’s corporate Christmas card, and as a result his entire pack will now be rewarded with a pantomime trip.
George Fergus from Sleights Cubs drew a festive picture of Father Christmas and his reindeer flying over a snow-covered landscape complete with Christmas trees and snowmen. The e-card will now be emailed to hundreds of S Harrison’s clients, suppliers and contacts, based throughout the UK.
S Harrison joined forces with Eskmouth Scout Group, which incorporates Sleights Cubs, Sleights Beavers and Whitby Cubs, after the company started work earlier this year on a major new homes development near Whitby at High Stakesby.
Everyone who participated in the competition was rewarded with an advent calendar for their efforts. In addition, George was presented with a Star Wars Lego kit and 90 members of the group will enjoy a trip to see Sleeping Beauty at Whitby Pavilion in January.
Gavin Douglas from S Harrison presented George with his prize. He says: “Every year we design a completely individual corporate Christmas card and we always strive to come up with new ways of making it stand out from the crowd.
“Inviting Eskmouth Scout Group to paint pictures for it proved to be a great idea and it’s been a real pleasure working with them. All the paintings were of an exceptional standard so choosing a winner was difficult, but George came up with an eye-catching and colourful picture that portrays the joy of Christmas through a child’s eyes, which made him a very worthy winner.”
Janine Pemberton from Eskmouth Scout Group, said: “We’re always keen to encourage creativity within our ranks and this competition has been a great opportunity for our Cub Scouts to put their imagination and painting skills to the test. I’m delighted George was selected as the winner and for us all to be rewarded with a pantomime trip is fantastic for everyone involved.”
As part of S Harrison’s work in Whitby, 190 much-needed new homes are currently under construction on land formerly owned by the Order of the Holy Paraclete, who are based at Sneaton Castle. Half of the homes will be affordable, and there will be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes, all with gardens, as well as a number of bungalows.
The company also recently secured planning approval to build 60 family homes nearby on Castle Road. The homes will include a selection of two and three-bedroom bungalows, as well as three, four and five-bedroom detached family homes that will all benefit from an exceptional, high-end specification and generous gardens. Work will start next year on the Castle Fields development.
