Manchester entrepreneur recognised with MBE

Manchester entrepreneur Prof. Vikas Shah has received a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The 37 year old, who started his first company aged 14, was recognised in the New Year’s honours list for Services to Business and the Economy.

Prof. Shah has previously appeared on BBC TV and Sky News as a business commentator, having spent many years of his life working in the entrepreneurial community and mentoring hundreds of young entrepreneurs and enterprises.

He is honorary professor at the University of Manchester’s Alliance Manchester Business School and professor of entrepreneurship at the MIT Sloan Lisbon MBA.

Prof. Shah is also the brains behind online journal Thought Economics, which has featured conversations with a number of leaders in various fields, among them philosopher Noam Chomsky, business magnate Sir Richard Branson, musician Will.I.Am, former astronaut Buzz Aldrin and Olympian sprinter Usain Bolt.

Prof. Shah said: “I was absolutely floored when I found out the news, it took a while to sink in.

“I have always gone through life working on things that I’m passionate about, and doing what I can to make a difference.”

He added: “Receiving an honour like this makes you think and reflect on how far you’ve come, and is one of the few times in life you stop to feel pride in yourself.”
