Is Deliveroo about to expand into India?
On-demand delivery startup Deliveroo is on the cusp of expanding into India, according to reports.
Quoting ‘sources close to the matter’, Times of India said the London-headquartered firm is hiring a country head and team to lead its growth on the subcontinent.
The source said: “[Deliveroo is] in the midst of getting on board a person who will spearhead the launch in India along with building a team.
“After securing new funding, expanding into new geographies was on the cards for them.”
Deliveroo, founded in 2013, was valued at over $2bn (c£1.5bn) after raising $385m in new funds last autumn.
The company today operates from a 51,500 sq ft HQ at the city’s Cannon Bridge House development.
Despite its rapid growth and financial success in the last four years, Deliveroo has fought to maintain its brand image following debates over its contribution to the so-called ‘gig economy’ and safety concerns from its riders.
