Housebuilder brings more than £40 million investment to local area

Leading local housebuilder David Wilson Homes has brought £40.5 million in investment to the local area, according to latest research.

The figures, which form part of the company’s socio-economic footprint, reveal that David Wilson Homes South West, based in Bristol, built 535 homes during the past year - bringing numerous benefits to the local economy.

The company has made more than £32 million of contributions to councils and into infrastructure and affordable housing for local people. It also calculates that the local economy has benefited from £8.1 million of additional spending in shops and services from the residents of new homes they have built. This spending alone supports more than 80 retail and service-related jobs.

David Wilson Homes South West managing director Ian Menham said: “Many people are aware that we are creating thousands of jobs wherever we build new homes - but that’s just the beginning. We also bring extra investment and a boost to these local economies.

“We’re proud to be contributing tens of millions of pounds on affordable housing, roads, community facilities, environmental improvements and infrastructure. In addition to all that, those who buy our new homes spend money within the local areas - bringing financial rewards to local businesses and services close to our new developments.”

The firm’s socio-economic footprint includes key figures showing its support for the housebuilding supply chain, local communities, environment, public services and employment. The report also shows David Wilson Homes:

• Supported 1,400 jobs directly and through its contractors and suppliers
• Directly employed seven new graduates, trainees and apprentices
• 90% of components used in the construction process were manufactured in the UK
• Planted or retained 11,290 trees or shrubs on its developments
• 13.3 hectares of green space created through public open space and private gardens

The report on David Wilson Homes’ Socio-Economic Footprint in 2016 was carried out by planning consultant, Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP).
