London-based robotic automation firm chooses Manchester for R&D site

Intelligent automation company Thoughtonomy has expanded into the North West.

The London-headquartered firm’s new Manchester base, located near Hardman Square, will serve as a research and development hub.

The launch follows a period of growth for Thoughtonomy, which saw sales rise year on year by 316% in 2017 and opened US offices in New York and Austin.

The company said it chose Manchester for its second UK base because of the city’s status as the biggest tech cluster outside London.

The North West team will spend the coming months supporting the launch of an intelligent automation platform that provides software-as-a-service digital labour.

Known as the Thoughtonomy Virtual Workforce, the system aims to free up time for skilled workers, reduce operational costs, improve the customer experience and help with the launch of new services.

Terry Walby, CEO and founder of Thoughtonomy, said: “Manchester boasts innovative start-ups and a rich pool of talent which will help the company consolidate its leadership position in intelligent automation.

“As a city it has always been a hub for innovation whether in business, technology or culture so it seemed the right place to be for a UK growth company.”

Thoughtonomy was established in 2013 and today works with more than 150 clients across 27 countries.
