Jesmond to receive new restaurant following £5m development scheme
A new restaurant is to open soon on Newcastle’s Osborne Road, part of a £5m development.
A North East leisure and hospitality operator, Malhotra Group plc, has unveiled plans to refurbish and transform its Northumbria hotel site, in Jesmond.
The first phase will be the opening, in March 2018, of El Paso, a 100-cover restaurant specialising in dishes with Spanish and Mexican influences. The venue is said to create 10 jobs and will feature private dining for parties and celebrations.
The project is the brainchild of director of operations, Atul Malhotra and has been heavily influenced by detailed discussion with nearby residents and customers.
He said: “We have spent several months conducting focus groups and gathering feedback, and we are confident El Paso will be a welcome and successful addition to Jesmond’s thriving hospitality scene.”
El Paso will replace the existing Scalini’s restaurant and represents the first phase of a programme of development at the hotel.
Further changes at the venue will include the creation of 13 apartment rooms and suites - some of which will include a kitchen and dining area - as well as a new wedding suite.
The reception area will also undergo a full refurbishment with the addition of a residents’ lounge and new conferencing facilities. The car park to the rear of the block will also be developed.
Scalini’s will close on February 4. Diners who pre-book reservations from February 2 onwards will receive a 50 per cent discount on meals.
