New Everton stadium: Toffees reveal Key Principles behind dockland development
Everton Football Club have revealed their ‘Key Principles’ for the new dockland stadium.
The points were put together following a survey that collated the opinions of thousands of Evertonians.
Among the principles underpinning the Bramley Moore Dock development are a commitment to creating an iconic waterfront landmark while continuing to serve the community of Liverpool 4, where the club’s historic Goodison Park home is located.
The report sets out the ways in which the city could benefit from the dockland scheme, including its financial contribution to the council.
It is also believed building the stadium could kick-start regeneration in Liverpool’s north docks area.
Real estate services firm CBRE has estimated that the development will inject £1bn into the local economy, generating over £900m for the Liverpool City Region before the stadium is even complete.
EFC chief exec Robert Elstone said: “Our stadium should be built to meet the needs and expectations of the people that will use it; our players, our partners and, above all, our fans.
“To understand those views, we’ve aggregated what we’ve heard and what we’ve read to develop what we are calling our Key Principles.”
He added: “We’d like to share those principles, to test and amend - or refine them - and to use them to frame the ideas and expectations of our fans.”
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said: “Liverpool City Council is fully committed to working with the club to deliver what will be an iconic new football stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.
“The opportunity for Everton’s new home to play a key role in the regeneration of an area of the city which holds incredible potential is very exciting.”
He added: “The project doesn’t just benefit North Liverpool but the whole of Liverpool because the City Council will benefit hugely from the financial return we get which will enable us to support front line services in this city.”
Everton are now inviting supporters to share their views on the Key Principles, viewable in full on the club’s website, via an online survey running until February 23.
