Liverpool set to welcome innovative real-time event planning app
Liverpool is set to ‘welcome’ an innovative digital portal to showcase the multitude of goings-on across Merseyside.
Created in partnership with the Mayor of Liverpool and backed by Liverpool City Council, Welcome 2 Liverpool will become the city’s first real-time event planning app, designed for both the city’s residents and tourists alike.
The app’s launch coincides with the region’s Digital Year and the tenth anniversary of the city being named ‘European Capital of Culture.’
Director of Welcome 2 Liverpool Mike Shaw said: “There’s never been a better time to be in Liverpool with so much going on within the city and beyond. We know it can often be difficult to keep track of ongoing and upcoming happenings, which is why we wanted to create an accessible solution to bring together people and places, allowing the city’s residents and visitors alike to find out about events and goings-on to suit them and their timetables.
“Our upcoming launch follows months of research and development and its features stretch far beyond a simple event planner. With the integration of Google Maps, users can plan their time easily and efficiently – whether it be a fun Saturday afternoon with the family or a romantic date night. Users can also pre-book events and contact venues directly, while the navigation function will ensure to get you from A to B as quickly as possible. Furthermore, the app will use geo-based push notifications to alert its users to any offers and promotions from businesses in close proximity.”
The Welcome 2 Liverpool app will feature information about Liverpool, it’s people, key sites, history and buildings, allowing for a fully-immersive insight into the diverse city. To further delve in to what makes Liverpool so interesting, the app itself will feature video tours of significant attractions including Mathew Street.
Mike added: “Aside from its notable user benefits, the app offers businesses across the region a platform to announce their events and offerings directly to customers, both significantly increasing people’s enjoyment in the city whilst also contributing to the local economy.”
Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said: “As Mayor, I am really pleased to see a local company create an innovative new approach to showing tourists and residents what’s happening in the city. This is a modern app which will give businesses a great opportunity to present their offers as well as offering residents and visitors the ability to plan their day or future visit to this great city - there are so many events, days and nights out in the city people miss because they don’t know they are on. The council itself organises many fantastic events and there are world class events planned as part of the 2018 birthday celebrations which the app will heavily promote.”
