Greenlight for electrical manufacturer Selectric’s Salford residential scheme

Electrical manufacturer Selectric is delivering 196 new homes in Salford.

The company has secured the greenlight to develop a two-building residential complex at the junction of Ordsall Lane, Worrall Street and Oldfield Road.

The taller of the two blocks will reach nine storeys and sit roadside. The lower will be set back, at seven storeys, and wrap around a ground-floor courtyard with recreation space.

Andrew Rae, co-founder of Manchester-based Fletcher Rae, the architecture practice behind the scheme, said: “It’s been a rigorous process leading up to this point, we’ve worked closely with the Urban Vision planning team to align our proposal with the overarching regeneration masterplan for Ordsall Lane.

“The new development will act as a catalyst for a new transit link between Manchester and Salford via Worrall Street, as well as encourage further development in an area that’s presently underused.”

In addition to creating a new riverside residential quarter, Selectric is also aiming to fuel growth across its core operations.

Selectric legacy chairman Jack Ellis commented: “Selectric has two manufacturing and distribution facilities; one is on the site that we’re set to redevelop and the other is nearby on Cow Lane.

“The apartments are acting as a business investment, supporting longevity business plans. We’re now looking for a new warehouse in Salford to co-locate the sites in order to operate more efficiently and increase production capacity.”
