North East becomes recruitment hotspot for fast-growing wind industry

Hundreds of wind technicians from across the country have turned up in North Tyneside for the chance to secure a job in the global wind industry.

More than 700 people travelled to AIS Training’s 20-acre industrial training village on North Tyneside to attend a recruitment event for wind industry service-provider, Global Wind Service UK (GWS UK).

Employing over 600 people globally, GWS is one of the largest companies in Europe which offers onshore and offshore installation and servicing of wind turbines. The company has future global wind projects in the pipeline requiring many new employees.

Barrie Jermy, HSEQ Manager with GWS, said: “Given our need to increase manpower for 2018, the North East was the ideal location to meet experienced technicians, alongside those new to the industry, who have the potential to become Global Wind Service employees in the future.

“Global Wind Service are celebrating our 10-year anniversary in 2018, and have a busy year ahead, this has helped us continue our search for talented individuals to join us on our ongoing journey.”

Charlie Guthrie, AIS Training’s marketing manager, said: “The North East’s strong industrial heritage and historical links with oil and gas mean we have the perfect skills base for the fast-growing wind industry.
