Liverpool builders chosen for £3m training centre scheme in Bootle

Building firm Crossfield Construction has been chosen to deliver a multi-million pound Health, Engagement and Training Hub for Liverpool’s Hugh Baird College.

The company will serve as the lead contractor on the £3m project, which will transform St Winefride’s Church on Oriel Road, Bootle, into a training academy for Levels one to six Health and Social Care training in partnership with Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

The church’s presbytery will become the Life Rooms, where Hugh Baird College will deliver community courses on practical life skills.

The project was backed by a grant from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Construction will start on site at the end of February.

David Cain, director at Liverpool-based Crossfield Construction, said: “We are thrilled to have been appointed on this project for Hugh Baird College.

“Not only is it wonderful to see the College working collaboratively with the Mersey Care NHS to provide exceptional learning environments for its students, but it’s our engagement with the students and the community we are particularly excited about.”

He added: “Bootle is a community close to the heart of Crossfield and our employees and we want to ensure this project benefits the surrounding economy by employing a fully local supply chain and carrying out community projects.”

The Health, Engagement and Training Hub is due to be operational by Autumn 2018.

Hugh Baird College’s principal and chief executive, Yana Williams, commented: “When we were looking for a lead contractor for the project we undertook a thorough and rigorous tendering process.

“Crossfield Construction stood out for us because of their deep links with Liverpool and in particular the Bootle area.”

Yana continued: “They also secured the contract because of the outstanding additional experiences they have committed to providing our students.”
