Tottenham Hotspur new stadium: Builders complete final stage before roof lift

Work on Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium reached a fresh milestone this week, with builders now preparing to raise the stadium’s roof structure into place.

A statement on the club website confirmed the completion of the development’s compression ring, which is the last step before the roof can be installed.

Located at the back of the four stands, the compression ring creates an elliptically-shaped ring to hold the cable net roof structure.

Once the cables are in position, 287 glass sections and 810 cassettes will be installed to complete the roof.

Flying columns are currently positioned in the stands across the development site. Each will form the inner part of the roof and is connected to an upper and a lower tension ring in the roof’s centre.

The tension rings are connected back to the compression ring by 45 radial cables. The roof lift will start in the coming days, once all the cables are connected.

The process will take a number of weeks, dependent on weather conditions, and involve tightening all the cables at the same time using lifting jacks.
