EDBS teams up with Virgin Money Foundation

East Durham Business Service (EDBS) has been awarded funding from the Virgin Money Foundation to support unemployed young people living in East Durham.

EDBS will run the Nurturing Skills, Developing Futures Programme to suit the needs of each participant with a view to tackling the wide range of barriers to employment that an increasing number of young people face.

Based in Peterlee, the programme will run both 1-2-1 and group sessions allowing each person to gain the specific support they need.

The aim of the programme is to help young people gain sustainable employment or an apprenticeship. The programme will run throughout 2018.

The service is fully funded and available to anyone living in East Durham aged 18-25 who is looking to gain employment.

Simon Naisbett from EDBS said. He said: “We are looking for young people, who have perhaps left school or dropped out of college for whatever reason, who are keen to start an apprenticeship or secure full time employment.

“The main thing is, they must have the right attitude and desire to work. If they do, we can equip them with the educational tools, life skills and work ethic to get them on track to enter the world of work.

“While we’re working with them we are also in communication with local employers about the jobs and apprenticeships available. Our aim is that we then match our young people with these opportunities and ultimately, get more of them onto the career ladder.”

EDBS has strong links with local employers and are looking to secure a number of employment opportunities with the aim of being able to place young people in their chosen sector to allow them to pursue their career.
