Local beer is top choice for Vintage Inns

Tyne Bank Brewery based on the edge of Ouseburn Valley, are delighted to have beaten stiff competition to secure a craft keg line with its award winning flagship American Pale Ale, Silver Dollar, in 18 of the North East’s Mitchells and Butlers outlets, including one of the region’s finest steakhouses – Miller & Carter in Newcastle and Sunderland, and throughout their North East Vintage Inns.

The independent business was launched in June 2011 and is a real local success story and a strong player in the regional ale sector. Silver Dollar achieved recognition very early on winning a string of national industry awards, including the Sainsbury’s Great British Beer Hunt in 2011, a 3 Gold Star rating in the Good Food Guide’s Great Taste Awards as well as a gold star rating in the Small Brewers Association awards in 2014.

Says Director of Tyne Bank Brewery – Julia Austin: “We’re thrilled that Silver Dollar has been recognised by such a prestigious brand as Vintage Inns and a great achievement that our flagship beer can now be enjoyed by a wider audience“. “We believe that the key to great brewing is down to the ingredients. We meticulously select what goes into our beer and that is the true ’hidden depth’ behind the unique offering of Tyne Bank. It’s what’s inside that counts and we use that as a measure across the board - whether we are talking about ingredients, the pint glass in trade, the beer in our tanks or our staff!’

Ben Lockwood, Procurement Manager for Cask Ale, Craft Beer and Cider at Mitchells & Butlers plc said: *“We’re delighted to be able to offer Tyne Bank’s award winning Silver Dollar to customers across so many of our pubs and restaurants in the North East. Tyne Bank have an excellent reputation and are seeing positive growth in their heartland, meaning we’re excited about the potential to grow the craft beer category with them”

Tyne Bank Brewery, has grown from strength to strength since its beginnings seven years ago. Austin was inspired to start the company following a trip to the West Coast of the USA in 2005, where the brewing scene at that time was booming.

“There were lots of small independent breweries serving beer onsite in taprooms by staff that fully enthused about the beer. Their ales were packed full of flavour and aroma it was truly a refreshing change from the UK scene at that time“ she says.

As a Chemical Engineer Austin loves to manufacture and in previous jobs this meant ceramic pigments, Nissan cars and green chemicals for Arizona at Birtley. But it’s running her own brewery which has given her the job satisfaction that was missing, and brewing beer, she feels, is proving to be a much more creative use of her engineering talent and skills.

Tyne Bank’s ales can of course be enjoyed widely throughout the North East but this new arrangement also sees Silver Dollar available throughout the Vintage Inn Pubs, in Miller and Carter Newcastle and Sunderland as well as The Brandling in Gosforth, the Victoria Comet and The Forth in Newcastle all part of the Mitchells and Butlers Chain.
Just don’t forget to ask for it!
