Care home residents celebrate fundraising success
Staff and residents at an award-winning retirement village in Chorley are celebrating their fundraising efforts after raising £180 for the North West Air Ambulance Service.
Residents at The Lodge and The Grange within Buckshaw Retirement Village were recently visited by members of the North West Air Ambulance Service, and to show their support, they held a range of activities to raise money for the charity.
Sporting yellow items of clothing to pledge their support to the charity, staff and residents held a coffee and cake sale, a raffle and a tombola to raise money for the organisation, which receives no help from the government.
Market Square coordinator Chris Durnan said: “Our residents really enjoyed the visit from the Air Ambulance Service.
“A lot of our residents recognise the important work that they do on a daily basis and were really enthusiastic to learn more about their work and help support them.
“As well as having an afternoon filled with fun activities, everyone came together and raised £180 for the charity, which we hope will help them continue to provide the life-changing services which make such a difference to people’s lives.”
Penni Brown, chief executive of the Hica Group which operates Buckshaw Retirement Village, said: “Welcoming local organisations to entertain our residents is part of a person-centred approach to activities and entertainment. Our home managers and activity coordinators do a fantastic job in providing residents with engaging entertainment which they really enjoy.
“It is also great to see that through these activities, money was raised to support a good cause.”
Buckshaw Retirement Village is part of the Hica Group, a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 15 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a care at home service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
