Avant Homes secures permission for £33m County Durham housing development

North East housebuilder, Avant Homes has been granted planning permission to build 161 new homes for a £33m development in the County Durham village of Wingate.

Avant Homes has acquired the 15.3 acre site, located off Wellfield Road at the North side of the village with immediate access to the A19.

The site is adjacent to the Hart to Haswell walkway, a disused railway line designed by George Stephenson to move coal from the Durham coalfield to Hartlepool docks.

The properties being built by Avant Homes include two, three and four-bedroom homes across 13 detached and semi-detached house designs, many complete with the developer’s new interior specification.

Construction has already begun on the development, with the first homes ready for occupation later this year.

Avant Homes North East’s managing director, Scott Varley, said: “We are committed to continued investment in County Durham as part of our strategy to produce jobs and meet demand for much-needed homes here and across the North East.

“Wingate and the surrounding areas are hugely popular for homebuyers, offering a countryside lifestyle with excellent transport links to major cities.

“Combined with our ever-popular house designs and interior specification, I’m sure we will see high interest once homes become available.”

A former pit village, Wingate sits beside the Castle Eden Dene national nature reserve, and is less than 10 miles from Durham and 15 miles from Middlesbrough.

Based in Sunderland, Avant Homes North East is an operating company of the Avant Homes group, a private developer of residential property in the UK.

The housebuilder currently has 11 developments in Tyne & Wear, County Durham and Teesside, stretching from Birkey Heights in Acomb to Newton Wood in Guisborough.

For the financial year to April 30, 2017, Avant Homes posted both record revenue and operating profit numbers.

Revenues increased 45 per cent year-on-year to £369m, whilst operating profits rose 107 per cent to £45m. These were delivered having achieved 1,636 total completions, up 35 per cent compared with the prior year.

Avant Homes employs more than 600 people and has four regional offices in Scotland, the North East, Yorkshire and the Midlands.
