Wildlife charity calls on Co-op shoppers for support

Northumberland Wildlife Trust is calling on all Co-op Members in Northumberland to support its new Wildlife Discovery Centre at Hauxley via the company’s Local Community Fund.
Every time a member shops at their local Co-op store, 1% of what they spend on selected own-brand products and service goes to the Local Community Fund. Members can then go online and select which cause they want their own 1% to go to, with the money raised together with money from carrier bag sales helping local projects. Since September 2016, more than £20 million has been raised. Every year the Co-op Group chooses a new list of local causes and this year (2018), the wildlife charity’s new Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre (WDC) at Low Hauxley has been selected as a recipient of Member funds. Built almost solely by 112 volunteers over 22,541 hours, following an arson attack on the old building 7 years ago, the eco-friendly centre is a magnificent building - a jewel in the crown of nature reserves along the Northumberland coast.

Speaking about the Wildlife Discovery Centre being chosen as one of the local causes for 2018, Alex Lister Druridge Bay Living Landscapes Manager said: “The local community has always supported our work along Druridge Bay and many local volunteers and companies helped us build the new visitor centre.

“Any money we receive will go to support the centre, so come on everybody, help us keep this building and the reserve it nestles in looking marvellous by visiting: www.coop.co.uk/membership and making us your cause next time you do your shopping.”
