Secure environments required for Blockchain initiatives

e-shelter at the Crypto Assets Conference on February 26-27; Blockchain start-up initiatives within the e-shelter innovation lab

e-shelter, the leading data center provider in Europe and an NTT Communications Group Company, will attend the Crypto Assets Conference of the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management (February 26-27, 2018, Frankfurt am Main). e-shelter fully supports the start-up track in this area of blockchain technology, as such, it will make its Innovation Lab available to the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center to encourage innovation and to develop and test blockchain applications together with start-ups and large enterprises.

While blockchains are a promising option for digitizing business transactions, these initiatives only make sense if they are implemented in a highly secure environment. e-shelter operates such environments as one of the leading providers of data centers in Europe. “Together with the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center, we want to support start-ups and their projects, but also, we want to offer large companies an opportunity to evaluate blockchain projects within the e-shelter innovation lab,” explains Toan Nguyen, Director Business Development & Cloud Platform at e-shelter. “Blockchain technology appears promising to decision makers in companies today; however, there are reservations about security [1]. In the secure environment of our data centers, blockchain applications can be solidly set up. “

“Beyond digital crypto-currency, blockchain technology is a key technology for the next 10 to 20 years, for example in the area of digitalizing business processes. Our Frankfurt School Blockchain Center also supports companies with their blockchain projects. As one of the top 5 business schools in Germany, we work intensely on the subject of blockchain and carry out projects in the field of banking and finance, as well as in the areas of mobility and IoT, “ says Prof. Dr. Philipp Sandner of the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center. “Blockchains in enterprise settings must take place in a closed and highly secure environment, for example for the automated handling of business processes. We are grateful to have e-shelter as a partner for the Crypto Assets Conference 2018. e-shelter offers such secure platforms. We are looking forward to expanding our collaboration with the e-shelter innovation lab. The Innovation Lab is the ideal platform for enterprise blockchain applications.”

What is Blockchain?

Blockchains are used for audit-proof transmissions and for the digitization of business transactions. In order to operate effectively and securely, a central repository is bypassed, and instead, the transaction is distributed within a network, and can be viewed by all partners at any time. The transactions are stored in multiple “blocks” which are closed by cryptographic procedures and secured (“mining”). Inter-enterprise blockchains require highly secure, high-connectivity environments that only experienced data center providers can offer.

The e-shelter innovation lab, located at the company’s Frankfurt data center campus, is now a facility with nearly 60 technology partners, including leading cloud Hyperscalers and hardware vendors such as Dell EMC, Cisco, Lenovo and Huawei. In the e-shelter innovation lab, a variety of architectures can be implemented and tested on short notice. Proof-of-concept scenarios for cloud applications and digitization projects can thus be realized in much shorter time periods and can be prepared for production deployment.
