Suites Hotel & Spa champions gender equality as part of International Women's Day

Suites Hotel & Spa is marking International Women’s Day (March 8) by championing gender equality within the hospitality industry.

According to the British Hospitality Association, of the 70% of hospitality workers who are female, only 20% are employed in a leading capacity.

In contrast, the award-winning Knowsley hotel employs 99 members of staff of which 70 are women, with many occupying longstanding senior and managerial positions.

Company Director and Sales & Marketing Manager Lyndsay Stanistreet-Tyer said: “From a young age, I have been inspired by strong women within my family who have played a huge role in the hospitality industry, which has influenced me to follow in their footsteps and establish my position here at Suites Hotel & Spa. There is a stigma to suggest that our fast-paced sector is male-dominated, especially within more senior and managerial positions, and we are keen to reverse this to place more powerful women in leading roles within our hotel.

“At Suites Hotel & Spa, female team members manage a consortium of our divisions from Accounts and Reservations to our Leisure Club and ‘Five Bubble’ Spa. We attribute our ongoing success to the varied skillset, talents and individual personalities of our whole team and pride ourselves on creating a truly diverse team.”

Suites Hotel & Spa offers a unique approach to overnight stays and is the only four-star hotel in the North West that provides all of its guests with suites. Most recently, its in-house spa was crowned ‘Best Health & Beauty Business’ at the 2017 Merseyside Independent Business Awards.

Lyndsay added: “Not only are we proud to employ so many talented women here at the hotel, we are particularly pleased with our staff retention rate. Studies show that the average length of service in the industry stands at just 12 months, while some of our longest serving staff members, including Lorraine Case (Accounts Manager), Karen Armstrong (Assistant Head Chef) and Linda O’Connell (Head Housekeeper) have been with us for 30, 17.5 and 17 years respectively.

“As Suites Hotel & Spa is an independently-owned and family ran business, our ethos is all about making our team feel like members of the family themselves, and it’s certainly rewarding to see that this pays off and is reflected in our particularly low staff-turnover rate. As part of our mission to create an inclusive working environment, we hope to inspire others within our industry to encourage more diversity within their teams to ensure staff members thrive in their roles.”
