New Liverpool firm to empower construction industry with advanced 3D modelling

Building services firm Steven Hunt & Associates has set up a new tech-led sister business.

The venture, Digital Engineering Studio, will aim to empower the construction industry with the latest 3D modelling technology.

Unveiled today (March 14) at property market conference MIPIM in Cannes, the company is a Building Information Modelling (BIM) provider that will specialise in the creation of fully coordinated models and virtual drawings.

The firm’s in-house team will work with clients to turn drawings and early designs into 3D models. Other services will include construction drawings, BIM coordination, clash detection and conflict reporting.

Using BIM, Digital Engineering Studio could help streamline the construction process, reduce waste and cut down on delays.

Steve Hunt, co-founder of Digital Engineering Studio and MD of Steven Hunt & Associates, said: “Having worked in the construction industry for over 35 years, I have learned how valuable data and open communication can be when working on building projects of all scales.

“Using all of the lessons that we have learnt from our work at Steven Hunt & Associates, we hope to help clients flourish in this new digital age, help partners collaborate and to provide a simple solution so that clients can harness all of their information in one manageable space.”

He added: “Most importantly for me it is about bringing people together. Digital Engineering Studio is able to deliver a fully integrated digital design so that anyone involved in the process, whether it is the contractor or the architect, can find the data they need quickly and easily.”

Dominic Sibbring, who has worked in the built environment as a BIM specialist for more than 10 years, will head up Digital Engineering Studio as managing director.

He commented: “Steve and I have been working together for over 10 years and often deal with companies who want to take the leap into BIM but don’t have the capability.

“From our experience of using BIM we can help eliminate risks that could arise down the line, offering a more reliable prediction of building performance, price and programme.

“Our technicians are using 3D models to focus on soft clashes where we can assess the operation and maintenance requirements, ease of installation and safe access to equipment. All of this allows us to provide a more buildable and maintainable solution for the end users and our clients.”

Speaking further, Dominic said: “It is a really exciting time to be a part of the construction industry and we see a future where BIM delivery is the norm.”
